In the past, Brunello
di Montalcino was undoubtedly considered Italy's most prestigious
wine. However, the DOCG rules, which require the wine to spend a
minimum of four years in barrels, result in flavors which are very
different to modern fruit-dominated wines.
Even when young,
Brunello di Montalcino has an amber color and a surprisingly mature
bouquet, somewhat reminiscent of cherries and port. On the palate it
is soft and well balanced with firm tannins and a long finish. |
