December
is the time for Christians celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.
Irrespective of religions, it is also a time to celebrate the end of
the year - good or bad, we look forward in hope for the New Year.
Taking inspiration from this “Festive
Occasion” Hyderabad Wine Club organized a “Sparkling Wine Dinner” with
three types of “Bubblies” . Hotel Viceroy Mr. Ravi Krishan, Mrs.
Rajani and Mr. Rudrojit joined us in encouraging wine culture, by
sponsoring the venue and food for this event.
The evening started with both Sula
Brut and Andre Brut. Sula's is light & refreshing, while
Andre is slightly sweet (for the ladies?). These two sparkles are served
with a range of finger foods - Tuna Puffs, Salt & Pepper Prawns,
Murgh Tikka Saufiyani, Mint Motiya Kebab, Zafrani Paneer Tikka, Baby
Corn Salt & Pepper and foods that is a mix of Indian and
Western. It was a good time for members to get to know each other and
set them in-the-mood for the evening.
Marquise De Pompadour (Chateau
Indage) with its French wine making philosophy is creamy crisp and
refreshing, made from a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Ugni Blanc
grapes. While the starters continue to pour in Carrot & Orange
Soup was added to suit the creamy structure of this sparkling.
Even though the theme of the evening was
‘Sparkling Wine’ few still wines, both White – Chenin Blanc,
Sauvignon Blanc and Red – Cabernet Sauvignon were offered to
consolidate the wine theme.
Taking the cue from the earlier dinners, starters with
wines are concentrated more upon than the main courses. This is line
with social habits of Hyderabadi Culture, where most of the social
dinners are attuned to habit of having Whiskies. A Grilled Red
Snapper with coriander-pepper crust served with saffron rice, curried
spinach & mushrooms with the still wines was a perfect match and
the evening ended with Chocolate & Nut Mousse Slice with coffee
sabayon.
Hyderabad Wine Club is continuing its
effort in building up Wine Culture in Hyderabad. After the initial
success, in reducing the Wine Label Registration Charges, nothing much
could be achieved. Representations to Authorities concerned, to reduce
sales tax on wines; treating wines under food portfolio similar to
Maharastra Government are still to born fruits. A positive attitude
towards wines by the authorities concerned will certainly help in
building up healthy citizens in time to come.
Being busy lifestyle, some of our members
could not make it to the dinner. Absence of members was well made up
by some lovely guests. Apart from our regular member couples G.
