    Wine Import into India

    Dear All,

We are a company importing wine from Australia to India. We would like to get more information and hope someone can do us a favour by helping us. We have a few questions:

    1. Which of the cities (e.g. Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad) in India has the largest wine market and of the highest potential? Actually we intend  to develope the Hyderabad market, so we want to get more info in Hyderabad market.

    2. What are the taxes or duties and their rates that an importer has to pay in different state? If we want to transport the wine from Chennai to Hyderabad or Delhi, is there any additional duty?

    3. What are the usual marketing activities for wine in India?

Thanks very much for your kind help!!

    Regards,

    George

    Hi George,

I am working in UK. I am interested in getting French wine into India and am in talks with some of the wine producers in Bordeaux, France. However, I am completely ignorant of the bureaucratic issues in India. Your questions are bang on target. Have you received any answers to them? Would you be willing to share them with us? My email address is getcharan@mail.com

    Thanks,
    charan

This is the right time to import wine to India as per money.cnn

    http://indianwine.com/cs/blogs/about_wine/archive/2006/08/11/1036.aspx

My personal opinion, selling wine is always difficult due to some many labels.

    Re: Wine Import into India

Dear Readers and Fellow Members ,

We are an Australian export company seeking to sell Australian wine in India. We intend to ship bulk wine via containers. We are looking for business partners/suppliers in India who will assume responsibility for:

    (a) bottling (approx. 24,000 litres); and/or

    (b) distribution and sales.

We would also like to see if any business partners can quote on receiving the containers in India ie, be responsible for clearing customs and payment of duties/taxes etc. (however, this requirement is not essential and we may arrange this ourselves).

We would like to receive expressions of interest for any of these activities (please supply details of capabilities and experience) and look forward to discussing commercial terms.

     Thanks and Regards,

    Mangesh

    Dear Mr. KS Rajgopal,

This is Rahul Gupta and am venturing into the wine import business. I will be importing wines from Germany, Austria and France. Can you give me some idea aboput the import duties and excise duties on the import and sale of wines in the States of Delhi, U.P. Uttarnchal and Maharashtra.

Since you are the most knowledgalbe about the system and the duties I would be expecting a fair bit of idea from you. An early reply to dimericimports@gmail.com will be really appreciated.

    regards

    Rahul Gupta

    Re: Wine Import into India

    Dear Mr. Rahul Gupta

Thank you for your interest.  I can explain about AP.

If it is Bottled in Origin - you can directly market the brand to all the Star Hotels, Pubs, Clubs, Premium Outlets etc.

APBCL proceedure had to be followed.   Here import duty is Rs.2/- per Bulk Litre.  ie Rs. 18/- per case.  Excise duty for Premium Brands here at AP is Rs. 80/- per proof litre depending upon the strength of the product.  APGST is @ 70% on the landed cost and APBCL margin is 27% and tax on margin is 70% plus CESS is 10%.

You have to add all these cost to your landing price i.e. after importing the brand and after paying the required Custome Duty and Additional deuty etc as per Central Govt, plus your markups etc.

However  BIO brands will cost much more higher here in AP.

Other areas I am yet to compile the statement which i will forward you later.

    My email ID is  rajagopalks@yahoo.com.

    Regards

    rajagopalks
