The Central Government of India has announced the customs duties on alcoholic beverages for the year April 2003 -March 2004.  The basic import on liquors other than wine & beer has been reduced from 182% to 166% in compliance with WTO stipulations while additional duties have been retained. The basic customs duty on wine & beer remains at 100% i.e. less than WTO  stipulations. Since the notification has been issued with this provison that the basic duty has been reduced from 182% to 166% as per WTO bound rate it shows the Govt. long term plan that these duties will remain effective.
